Senior Assistant Director, Financial Aid Advising

My name is Albertha Mellerson. I have over twenty-five years of Higher Education experience, mainly in the financial aid profession, working at several Maryland colleges, including Howard Community College, University of Baltimore, Laureate Education (Walden University), and currently employed at Johns Hopkins University Homewood campus aid office.

One of my significant accomplishments is having earned a Bachelor’s degree from Morgan State, my M.B.A. (Masters Business Administration) from the University of Baltimore, and earned a Masters’ degree in Education from Johns Hopkins School of Continuing Studies while working full time in financial aid, at times worked part-time jobs and the ability to participate in mentorship programs while enrolled and working at the University of Baltimore and remained involved in student-sponsored events and activities at Hopkins to help others achieve their educational goals.  As an alumna of Johns Hopkins and Morgan State University, I can stay connected with other alum, students, faculty, and administrators from these colleges.

My passion and mission are to help others understand, educate, provide financial aid counseling and serve as a professional role model to others to achieve success. As a recipient of the DE-DC-MD ASFAA (regional financial aid association) Marilyn Brown Professional Excellence Award (1995-1996), it demonstrates my dedication, sensitivity, and exceptional contributions to students and the universities where I worked; utilizing professional ethics of the highest caliber as a financial aid professional.

My Inspirational Quotes to Students: “Wake up with determination…Go to bed with satisfaction.” “Each of us get one today—make it count and make it amazing!” “The struggle is part of the journey and road to success.”
